Keep Moving Forward: What Meet the Robinsons Teaches Us About Hope, Resilience, and Every Child’s Future
Every so often, a movie delivers a message that extends far beyond the screen. Disney’s Meet the Robinsons is one of those stories.
At its heart, the film follows Lewis, a brilliant young inventor growing up in foster care. Like many children, Lewis longs to know where he belongs. He experiences disappointment, rejection, and moments of self doubt, yet he never stops dreaming about what could be. Through unexpected relationships and the encouragement of those who believe in him, Lewis discovers that his future is not determined by his past.
One phrase echoes throughout the movie: Keep Moving Forward.
Those three words beautifully capture the spirit of the work we do every day at Atlanta CASA.
Children who enter foster care have often experienced circumstances no child should have to endure. Abuse, neglect, loss, instability, and uncertainty are chapters in their story, but they do not have to become the ending. Every child deserves the opportunity to move forward with hope, confidence, and the support of caring adults who believe in their potential.
That is exactly what CASA volunteers do.
A Court Appointed Special Advocate cannot erase what has happened in a child’s life. What they can do is walk beside that child during one of the most difficult seasons they may ever experience. They become a consistent presence, a trusted voice, and an advocate focused on one thing above all else: the child’s best interests.
Sometimes moving forward does not happen in giant leaps.
Sometimes it looks like a child attending school consistently for the first time in months.
Sometimes it means finding a safe and stable home.
Sometimes it is helping siblings remain connected.
Sometimes it is simply ensuring that a child knows someone will be there when they arrive for court.
Every one of those moments represents progress.
As Atlanta CASA begins a new fiscal year, our theme is Time to Take the Next Step. It is a reminder that meaningful change happens one step at a time.
Every volunteer trained. Every partnership strengthened. Every child served. Every life impacted. Each step moves us closer to a future where every child experiencing foster care has a dedicated advocate by their side.
Meet the Robinsons reminds us that our future is built not by dwelling on what has happened, but by believing in what is possible.
The children we serve are resilient. They are creative. They are capable. They have dreams, talents, and limitless potential waiting to be discovered. What they need are adults who see beyond their circumstances and invest in their future.
As Walt Disney once said, “Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward.” This July, I invite you to consider how you can help a child move forward.
Whether you choose to become a CASA volunteer, support our mission, share our work with others, or advocate within your own community, your next step could change the trajectory of a child’s life.
Together, we can ensure that every child has someone who believes in them, stands beside them, and reminds them that their story is still being written.
Together, let’s keep moving forward.
